Front wheel noise

Hi all

Since rebuilding the TRX, I have a had fron wheel noise and think it it's either wheel bearing or tyre (both were second hand items). The noise does come front the front for sure, is a two tone sound that appears straight away (cold or warm, wet or dry) and at any given speed (i can only start hearing it when about 20mls per hr or so because of FCRs and cans) and is consistent regardless of circumstances such as acceleration, braking, in gear or out of gear, cornering etc.

So here's are my questions:

How can I know for sure or check if it's the tyre or wheel bearings?
Could it be something else?
Bike was MOT'd in April, after the rebuild, with no advisories etc and have only done 1000kms since... I'm thinking they would've/should've spotted an issue on bearings or tyre right?

Opinions are welcome.

If it does not get faster or slower with acceleration/deceleration then it's unlikely to be the wheel, could it be something flicking off the fan blades? They will turn even when the fan is off due to the airflow

It does get faster with speed and there is less of a two tone sound when braking (so when there is more pressure on the front and tyre or bearing).

Check your caliper pistons are moving freely too, could be a slight pad rubbing the disc thing going on.

Caliper pistons have been cleaned and move freely. I don't think the discs get warm even if brakes aren't used but I have silver spots with a YZF front end and have read of slight fitting issues with the 320mm discs so will check this on my way home.

The sound does change when braking so I don't think the speedo drive would is at fault here since it's in place on the between the fork bottom leg and the wheel axle. (Someone correct me if I am wrong though )

Are the pads fouling very slightly on the rivets on the disc? Can be an issue running R1 calipers on YZF forks - worth checking?

bearings or seals
replace em all quick, a seized one in the front wheel is un-nerving.
If you still want to ride it after that warning, feel the hub near the bearings for heat.

Hi Adrian, best to just whack a set of bearings in the front anyway ,..as its then that you can be sure its not going to throw you and its one option that you can tick off your list...just a thought though...my yzf front with gold spots and sintered pads usually make a slight buzzing noise as they run over the 320mm dics cut outs...my discs are metalgear from here in Brisbane.

So did a few checks, nothing gets hot and pads are well clear from the discs rivets. I ordered some front wheel bearings to be on the safe side so will see how this goes. Going traveling at the end of the month so guess I'll find out more at the end of the summer, once I got round to fit these and retest.
