Help To Identify What Year Engine

Post by johno440 » Thu Nov 15, 2012 10:20 am

Hi,

I've got a black TRX motor with a silvery coloured head. Only has stamped 4NX and no numbers on the engine number tag, and the oil sticker just under it is in Japanese. I got it from the bike wreckers at Moss St Slacks Creek QLD some time ago.

Can anyone advise what years it is, or if a Japanese import? I've consulted Haynes Service Manual but doesn't have this engine listed.

Cheers,
John

a black motor is always going to be an import, john, the import motors are no problem, its the ignition module that is restricting,..the motors go pretty well as far as i know otherwise.

Yeah, +1 on that.
All trx motors are the same.

johns using his in a buggy so he prob won't be utilising the speedo side of things so that won't be an issue.. I think you will find the speedo limits the motor via the module...
would be keen to see some pics of it as I've heard so many people talk about TRX motors in buggies

Hi John

I'm sure I read somewhere here that the 4NX with no numbers identifies it as a replacement engine supplied by yamaha, I'm sure someone will correct me if otherwise.

Cheers, Andy.

Here's a few shots. The first couple are just dummying things up. The later one we changed the side bars and everything all mounted. Now just need to complete the motor and then all ready to go [-o<

Otherwise! :D

All Japanese (well, Yamahas anyway) engines fitted to bikes (not necessarily replacements) only have the model code and no numbers (1WG, 4NX, 3XV, 3MA etc...) so there's no need to worry about the numbers not being there.

I thought I was wrong once but it turns out I was mistaken
there are only 3 types of people in the whole world
those who can count
and those who cannot
