There was some discussion some years back about the gearbox oil seal both on TRX and TDM. From memory the positioning of the oil seal is critical due to "tangs" on the seal covering a drain hole????

Re: TRX eating oil for brekkies
Yes thats the problem i had, the original seal was installed incorrectly covering an oilway. New seal installed using Yamaha 3 bond and alls been good for a decade now (touch wood).
Started out using Motul semi synth then changed to Penrite. Unfortunately Penrite keep changing their formulas so i have to regularly check the bottles to make sure i'm getting the good oil. 130,000kms from new and still doesn't use oil between services. Still on the original cam chain too

Re: TRX eating oil for brekkies
Hey all,
Thought I'd write back and report that a 90.0mm overbore and top-end rebuild did the trick....for all of about 800k's. Then I ditched it in a ditch
Darn gravel in a corner. Managed to save it over the hard parts and do a 180 flip into a muddy bank. So the landing was semi-soft. I was totally ok and the damage to Trixie is 99% cosmetic. Now it needs some fairing and fairing mounts and a new Exhaust. Any suggestions on the latter?
Cheers Oliver
P.S. The reason for the oil loss became apparent when we got into the engine. One of the previous owner had internally re-worked the engine already for whatever reason. So the bores were pretty much worn out. So this was not TRX common engine ageing.
