more cam chain talk

Post by Rane850 » Fri Dec 28, 2012 11:59 am

Since my bike is in nice condition I was pissed of rattling cam chain when I came back home from enjoying road trips. Noice was hearable with warm engine and around 3000 rpm.
Bike has run under 30tkm and it has 0,5mm milled off from barrel.

I now got old cam chain out from engine and measured it and new chain. Difference was only +2 mm. Measures were taken with huge vernier caliber.
Chain tensioner had only 5 clicks left to full extension.
My opinnion is that someone has made mistake in engine planning department in early 90's. Cam chain tensioner extracts too much and spring does not have enough force to push tensioner. I already planned to make some kind of spacer between tensioner and chain slider, just securing it safely can be bit problematic. Or maybe I should have full manual chain tensioner made??? Does anybody have screw type tensioner?
