In a quandry..........
Time for a bit of thinking...............
TRX has 108,000kms on it, most parts of the bike still original.
It has been a fairly reliable old thing only letting me down once or twice over the 10 yr period I've owned it.
At its age, many things are getting to the point where they need replacing.
I'll need a new cam chain next time the valves are checked......about 20,000kms away
I am now on my 2nd replacement water pump and this one is dripping coolant intermittently.
Rear shock is original and WAY past it.
If I was to keep it all these items would need to be replaced.
Also waiting in the wings are a new set of Keihin FCR41mm carbs with associated cables and adaptors, a K&N vent filter and RAMAIR dual filter sock.
I am also thinking of putting on a new set of pipes and a rear hugger and a new screen (as mine has actually gone opaque)
I am looking with interest at a 2007 Kawasaki ZX10R (the model with the high side pipes).
1/ Do I take the TRX off the road and restore it, and buy the Kawasaki?
2/ Use the TRX as a trade-in on the Kawasaki.
3/ Or save up and buy a late model TRX as an everday ride, restore this one or have two TRXs and build a decent bike and have the other one as a donor?
I much prefer option 1 or 3
Bob

Re: In a quandry..........
ask the missus..............option 3 might be workable
or tell her that option 1 is a no as the trade in value is way too low

Re: In a quandry..........
My tied old Trx with 117 000 km on the clock was holding its own with all the big guns round Lakeside the other weekend.. Sure they may have gone past me on the straight but I could out brake and hold better corner speed than many which kept me in the same times. Into blue group gave me constant 1.08 with the best a 1.06 .. Stank on his Duke 1190 was a constant 1.06 / 1.05 .... Just get your suspension sorted.. I've an r6 shock and emulators/.8 front springs and change to .9 for my track days .

Re: In a quandry..........
Get another TRX and do up the old un. I had an V2 09 Tuono Factory for 3 years, loved it dearly. Went to europe a couple of times, Scotland several, track days, wekend blasts etc. It did all of it easily and with character. Unfortunately she got written off on the Nurburgring, so thought it was time for a change. I got a V4 Tuono and it was amazing, did everything so efficiently and mega quickly, handled like a dream. But after a fortnight I was bored of it. It was absolutely shit boring, with no character whatsoever. Now I know a V2 09 Tuono isn't exactly a TRX but it was still a pretty old bike in fancy clothes with 90% of the traits of the very first ones. Farrrrrk me I'm wafflin. Point is, new bikes are boring and I got meself another V2 Tuono

It would be option 1 for me... Keep what you know/are satisfied with and have another toy on the side for temporary/occasional fun... I'm talking about bikes here obviously!

Re: In a quandry..........
I have .8 linear springs which I utilise for the road this spring rate is perfect for my weight around the mid 80's KG, comfortable at soaking those small bumps you'll find travelling everyday and still firm enough to give me the stability and cofidence to go hard if needed. The .9 are a little firmer as comfort is not a priority over handlingAmonza wrote:Please explain...before I fork out (cobbadiggabuddyblooo wrote:.8 front springs and change to .9 for my track days .) on new springs for my bike.

Go to the spring rate section and click on the calculate spring rate when set up for TRX and your weight ..wet weight (full tank of fuel) of a TRX is 204 KG std... also the std cans weigh around 6kg each too so if you have changed them that may save you some weight...
