Electrical Weirdness

Post by Yoozy » Wed Mar 13, 2013 8:25 pm

I've had a flick through the search and couldn't find much on this specific drama so here goes,,

Did a track day on the Trx today, everything fine and dandy except for a slight hesitation after complete shut off of the throttle, drop a gear and then one small stutter on pick up when feathering it round a corner. Didn't really bother me and was thinking it maybe needs some plugs, that kind of tiny missfire thingy.
Anyroad, called at work on the way home and the bike was fine. Left it for about 3 hours, got on, switch on, fire straight away but splutter fart splutter fart and a really bad tick over and it would not rev at all yet the rev counter was going potty. Messed with the fuel cock, nada.
Turned it off, turned it on and nothing, nothing showing on the dash as in dead and no starty. Just like the main fuses had blown.
Faaarrrkkk, seat off, mess with fuses, all ok. Mess with connectors, mess with coils, nothing. Put a screwy over the starter solenoid and boom, starts and dash is lit up. But still ticking over rough as fook and no revs. Both cylinders were firing btw.
Turn key off and try again, same thing, nada. Put screwy over solenoid, boom, cough splutter fart.

I'm thinking the ecu has fried ?

If your tachometer is noing nutty, check that your TPS hasn't come loose...it controls the advance ..retard...might be why the motor won't rev as well.....the TPS is the black sensor with the wires that sits on the left side of your carbies.
Check with the manual to the set up.

Thanks for the advise and offers chaps =D> Bit mad everything going rough then completely shutting down. All the fuses and connections were good round the battery and the big neutrals were tight. Summat to do this weekend a spose, don't look like we'll be getting out again according to the forecast up here anyway :?
I was absolutely buggerred yesterday so its sometimes best to leave this sort of shit for a couple of days eh.

I remember a fault on an Rsv I had that was a weird one. Checked and tested everything and I mean everything for 2-3 days and 2-3 times, anyroad this fault turned up to be a spike on the chip in the ecu. Sat still it tested fine even when swapped for another bike. But when it was ticking over it appeared again, and it turned out one of the spikes/pins was snapped, ok when still but ever so slightly vibrating when the engine was ticking over.
You live and learn eh, I also went and got some reading glasses coz I'd had it out once

Chaps. Ignition barrels fookarred. I get a 12+v to the red on the 2 pin connector and nothing coming back on the brown when its turned on. So I put a direct feed on the brown and bingo. Luckily, well mebbe, the ignition is new and I can swap it in the week. I wish I had a spare one to confirm this before I ring and put my hand down the fone line to throttle em
