Electric fuel pump conversion minutae

Hello out there, hows it all going TRX'rs?

Im currently changing the rear fairing on me Rex to the 5eb and to get that slick GP look im getting rid of the bulky (and in my mind horribly ugly vacuum fuel system.... all those hoses!!!) Ha, anyway I have located a fuel pump which will do the job (via this bloody great forum!!) and the instruction suggest installing an oil pressure cut out switch to avoid pressure problems, if it was necassary i thought about trying to find an in-line produact somewhere. Has anyone done this previously or are Facet ( http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121138160422 ... 1439.l2649 ) trying to take advantage of my pleasant nature by givin me the hard sell? A bit noisey the external pumps,Blindo.. that and not being immersed in the fuel..the pump you are looking at will be the electro magnet style back and forward pulse type, not a turbine motor found in cars...
In short, they clatter...the original Rex pump might be lighter as well.
Also if an after market fuel pump is fitted ( on anything)..it must have an accident cutout ...so the pump doesn't keep working if there is a spill and the ignition is still on....this is where the vacuume style is so simple and popular..hence, the motor stops and the ign is still on,..fuel isn't being pumped out a broken pipe somewhere.
Just food for thought.

As far as I`m aware there`s no LEGAL requirement to have a fuel pump cut out circuit in the UK but yes, anyone can see it makes sense.
That said, I had a Guzzi Le Mans that spun on a cylinder head in the road (I was knocked off it by a drunk cage pilot), snapping off the right hand plug body but leaving enough of the central section of the plug in the plug cap and firing sparks everywhere as it was laying there running on one cilinder.
The 41 mm magnesium racing Dellorto`s started losing fuel from the float bowls and whoosh, almost instant fireball!
You `could` go the route of a fuel pump from another type of bike, here`s a Yamaha Fazer in-line fuel pump:

Seems quite compact and a simple one fuel line in, one fuel line out.

I fitted one to a Tdm ....... the R6 Yamaha was just perfect for the job and dead cheap , I seem to remeber the R1 was trickier to get in

Cheers everyone, i have found a universal 'tip over switch' which I think is a mercury type on ebay (just waiting for dimensions from the seller), but had considered an r6 version too, ill keep you all informed!

I too fitted one on my old tdm, from an r1.
worked a treat, was in improvement, but i think my vacuum pump was cream crackered.

Mercury switches are great for stable items that occasionally fall over......how far do you lean your bike? On a twisty road the fuel pump could be cutting in and out to the point that you stave the engine

Why don't you move the Vacuum pump to make it less noticeable.....it's just some fuel hose simples

Well im no Casey Stoner wanna-be, But I lean her over a bit......... I would have thought an R6 tip over switch would fit the bill, I do like the idea of a safety cut off switch a lot tho.... and Im completely hooked on getting rid of all the hoses too. After a bit of research it looks like the fazer pump is going to do the job, and seeing as I have to change the wiring harness anyway, it wont take too much more effort to wire in a fuel pump circuit (and as far as I can tell the cut-off goes in-line with the + feed to the pump).
