Ignition switch removal?

Has anyone successfully removed their ignition switch and replaced it with a simple on/off electrical switch?

Thinking I should be able to have a single pole switch that switches all three circuits that are shown in the Haynes.

Stupid wiring diagrams always confuse me.

One circuit appears to be the parking light that comes on when you turn the key anti clockwise. No need for this of course; just leaves two other circuits, one being the main power on/off and the other looks as though it ties in with the clutch switch and the lights??

I want to bin it because it is a big metal lump with the (now redundant) steering lock and I am gradually making a pile of bits in my winter target for a 10kg weight loss. May be optimistic but no harm trying................

I've done it and it is pretty straightforward. However, my TRX is purely a track bike now so I don't have to worry about lights an' ting.

Did you just end up switching the two largeest wires and leave the rest open circuit?

Any pointers for sourcing a mountable switch?

You also need to get the 4 wire plug and connect the two circuits together. I did this with solder and heatshrink just after the plug as it was easier than connecting in situ. It also makes it reversible later if necessary..

The 2 wire plug needs to be switched or you'll flatten the battery. I've just connected the two wires with solder and heatshrink again but brought the connector out of the side of the frame. This allows me to just plug the connector in as a sort of key, if you see what I mean.

The engine kill switch still works as normal.

Phil. Mine is just the two wires and a toggle switch. I'll have a look tonight and try to tell you which ones they are.
My bike seems to be starting to get a bit of clutch slip coming out of slower corners. Not enough to get me worried yet but i am thinking of clutch rebuild this winter. Do you want to sell your old one.
I still want the wheel by the way.
Am thinking i might go to Cadwell friday as there might be a few others going from here.
Ran with the Wets on all day yesterday. They are amazing!. One session towards the end was drying a bit and i did start to chew the back up a bit but mainly on the right hand side, i guess the faster corners at Bedford are right handers. They combined the inters and fast, so i stayed in that group and they ran 30min sessions all day.
I got 3 hours tracktime even though i missed the last session cos i was knackered!.

I wish I could have joined you Dave. It would have been fun chasing round in the wet. 30 minute sessions must have been tiring. I am usually happy to come in after 20. Cadwell is a no no for me because my heads now off and it is such a long drive. I will see you up there in 2014 I hope. I really like the recently mentioned suggestion of a Mallory TRX gathering.

My clutch uses the original plain and friction plates and so I am not sure I can help you. I have a second set from the motor that was purchased for the crank but was planning to hang onto these in case my slipper unit wears the clutch faster than stock. Saying that I only do about 500 miles a year so I would be surprised if it east clutches.

You could probably tempt me to sell the full (or friction?) plate set; if mine kills its clutch I would probably go for new after market R6 plates anyway.

Wheel is sat here waiting for you and won't be going anywhere.

Phil, not sure this will help much but its the green wire and red wire that is switched on mine. Without taking the tank off i cant really say where the splice into.
The little red wire goes to the warning light, so i dont leave it swithed on.
