mounted crosswise (not as in the picture) with the swan neck for bicycles to the frame part which holds the sub frame for the fairing (don't know what you call it ... and got no pictures of it yet ... ).

It's mounted such that it doesn't hide the speedo or something.

Now that looks interesting! Where do I get something like that? Power supply, how did You do that?

I also have the HTC Tytn2 with TomTom 6 like Tarwe. Just found out about these guys, but haven't tried it out yet. Perfect substitute for a lap-timer as well if it works!

i got a garmin when in germany. I got a 12v power adaptor from louis in munich. it has a nice bracket that fits on to the trx frame nicely. i then just sliped it in my tank bag with a set of air phones. sd card with music on it and off i went. worked real well. am a little bit confused as to how to use the thing properly though. the card reader wont read all the tracks on it and i would relly love to be able to plan a route on my pc then down load it in to the satnav but cant figure out how to do it.

would love to mount it on the speedo but am worried about it falling off. are those ones from maplin universal????

Tomtom do a bike mounting kit, so would have thought they would also do a bike specific wiring job as well, its called the rider, if your interested. has no internal speaker as it has a bluetooth headset.

Noticed yesterday that mine has a jack plug hole for head/ear-phones so I just need to find some of those li'l tiny earphones & I should be sorted. I've deciced to mount the unit on the speedo face using nothing more than elastic bands.

As to the power supply I have to think a little more about it - most likely I have to drill a little hole in the wave case (and seal it again of course) for this:



It's a triple adapter for connecting a head set with a 3.5 mm plug, a mini USB connected head set and a charging cable (also mini USB) at the same time!

With this adapter the (little short) battery time of the bluetooth headset can be bridged over by using whatever headset you may have and charge the pda - with the 12V socket (also from Louis in Munich like brockzila )


A few months ago I found also a lap timer solution for pda: GPSector (in German) but I didn't have the opportunity to try it seriously yet ...

Maybe it's time to make some pictures for you - but that means pulling away the cover from the TRiXie ...

Although I agree with the ladies in this topic ; a good map always worked for me,
I'm quite happy with the possibility to use my mobilephone (from work) with TomTom on the bike. I made some interesting routes on the PC back home and then just ride from corner to corner, works great! Well, untill TomTom knew a shortcut that is...

I used a carholder for attaching it to the bike, stuck it to the speed gauge (the speed was shown on TomTom screen). No, it's not waterproof and with the sun shining on it, it is difficult to read the screen but it costs me almost nothing.

My plan also with the new (business ) mobilephone! Did you use the batterypower only or straight from the TRX battery?

We don't, but I always stop by Polo & Louis when I'm in Germany.

OK - another question - I've just got a new phone (Nokia 6600) and it's got maps on it but not GPS. I looked online and a GPS memory card thing is about £200 ... but you can buy TomTom's or similar for about £60 now. Or am I looking at the wrong thing? Is there a cheap way of turning my phone into a satnav?

I believe you download tomtom software or similar to your phone the buy a 12V satelite receiver (£20ish). I have an old nokia with tomtom installed so I bought a receiver but could never get the phone to recognise/connect to it?

Yup, almost like Senõr Beale says, You need an external Bluetooth GPS receiver (some phones have an internal GPS, but not the 660 as it looks). If I've read and understood the Nokia site correctly, You won't need any extra software, because Nokia provides something called Nokia Maps. (This is Nokia's equivalent to the TomTom software.) Just check that You have the "right stuff", and no "evaluation SW", which will expire before You've learned how to use it... I saw somewhere that You can buy this SW for something like 80ish £s if You don't have the real deal. No idea how good Nokias SW and maps is compared to TomTom's which is what I have.

Nice work! is that an industrial touch PC or something? I guess its running windows and has some digital and analogue I/O on it, looks great.

On the subject of Satnavs, this site has the cheapest tomtoms I have seen. The refurbished ones are ok, as mine was one of those and a year later it is still fine.
