You can adjust the oil retainer ring, the wavey one, and manually adjust how much oil it wipes on the sleeve. Im not surprised the JE ones were done correctly. Its not just the fact that its a ceramic liner on the 900 barrels, its the piston/cylinder clearances which are around 60% less because the bores and pistons expand at the same rate.
Less clearance = less slap= less wear
I still think the TDM/TRX engine burns oil cos they're run it too much and the bores glaze. That could be the reason IMO that only some engines use oil
The 900 does use a LITTLE oil (well, mine does) but that's not a bad thing - at least it's getting there! Maybe a half litre between oil changes.
