I know I'm a newbie here, but I thought I'd tell you about a recent ride home from work.

About 1 kilo from work, a guy going slow in the left lane decided to make an abrupt, signal-free lane-change to the right. I was going a good bit faster than this guy, so I ended up hitting the right side of his car, denting his doors and removing his right side mirror. I then hit the ground, and I think the guy in the car hit me again.

So after getting the ambulance ride to the hospital, I was diagnosed with a broken collar bone, three broken ribs, a crushed scapula, a punctured lung, a bruised knee and thumb with ligament damage, a headache and sore body with plenty of bruises.

I've now had almost two weeks to mend, so I'm feeling a good bit better and hoping I'll be ready to get back on a bike again next month.

The TRX appears to be road worthy with the exception of the shattered upper cowl. However, there may be trouble lurking in the front suspension, as the bottom of the left slider seems to have lost some metal when puncturing the cars front tire. While this might have helped in preventing the unlicensed driver from fleeing, it may also have resulted in a bent fork tube. Other than the above, all else appears to be cosmetic. The left engine case is badly scraped, but not leaking, the left side Yamaha exhaust can is majorly rashed, shifter bent, clutch lever and perch lightened by some serious road rash, and the gas tank probably holds about a liter less with the nice dent it received.

While I did quit riding motorcycles for about a day, little time passed before I was looking forward to healing, so I could start riding again. :D

Glad you're on the mend. That's quite a list of injuries! :(

If he's unlicensed will it be a problem getting him/his insurance to pay for the damage to the bike?

Hope you will get big health soon bag!!!!
In germany it´s not the question of license! A car is a risk and has to be insured... so the insurance has to pay.... but they will get the money back from the unlicensed driver!

Wish you good luck!!!!

Just talked to throttle on the phone here an hour or so ago. The only thing he was complaining about was... Japanese pain killers!

I forgot to mention my liquid supliment technique... :drunk:

Hey throttle, hope you recover soon.

That doesn't sound too dissimilar to an accident I had a few years ago, although fortunately I managed to stay upright even on the grass I was pushed onto so I came out pretty much unmarked.

The impact did break the frame of the bike though, and I managed to rip the front wing of the car off with my leg.

Get well soon Throttle. I had a similar crash a few years back when I was riding an FZ600. Injuries and nagging wife kept me off bikes for over 5 years but every cloud has a silver lining .... restarted my two-wheeled life by buying a TRX and the rest, as they say, is history.
Rubber side down, Red side up is my preferred riding style.

Hi Throttle,

Hope you're well and truly on the mend and the bike turns out to be OK. Good luck with the insurance situation...

Mark.
