worn chain, hooked sprockets.........

Post by Wombat » Tue Dec 08, 2015 7:49 am

RK 525GWX chain, probably 2 - 3 years old, possibly 25 - 30,000kms

just noticed the other day a slight vibration, unusual.
more pronounced on Monday.
Took sprocket cover off and found the sprocket nut was loose only being held on by the tab.
Pulled it all apart and re tensioned everything. Took it for a ride and it was ok but still there, mostly on take off, it seems to snatch more than usual.

Today, adjusted the chain so it had 25mm slack, took cover off to re check the sprocket nut and noticed that the teeth on the front sprocket are starting to hook, the rear is still fine. Again took it for a ride, goes ok, snatches a bit on take off.

I'll post the photo on the TRX FB pages.
Hopefully just new sprockets, nut and tab and new chain will cure it.

It really only started manifesting itself last week
