fittintg new fcr41's comparision in s.e. QLD

Post by cobbadiggabuddyblooo » Wed Oct 08, 2008 12:48 am

Hello all fellow Queenslanders. :D =D> Have just recieved a new set of fcr 41mm carbs and am about to bolt them to my trx(std fitted with staintunes and K&N filter in airbox) so anyone keen on a comparision test ride of before and after please let me know.(lost my licience last week too so in no rush) Will try to work a day between members if keen when fitting carbs to ride before and after for your own comparision.
Purchased a set of blue spot callipers for the front as well so will replace those aswell. Also have possible big bore exhaust lined up from a Sydney member and will once again do a comparision day when fitting exhaust/rammair filters and re-jetting. Good excuse for a barbie and swim anyhow.
Couple of good educational fun days if anyone is interested.
!st day fitting carbs to std format exhaust/air and brakes.
2nd day hopefully soon after when fitting bigbore exhaust and airpods and re-jetting
any other ideas or suggestions on how to make this work best/safest for all will be greatfully appreciated(maybe we could haggle with a dyno mech/bike shop on a dyno info day) Any ideas welcome ..... Brian

Have you sussed out the re-routing of the warm water hoses for the carbs ? I used hard plastic air line and it's worked well.
Did you get cables with the carbs as they need to be a bit shorter than OE. If you need jets MMM in Moss st have all sizes for $6 each.
If everything seems under control

Thanks for the info on the water hose.. Will make sure I have some onhand when fitting. yes carb's came with cables and velocity stacks and various manifold as well with screws. have gathered quite a bit of info off the site about the carb's and jetting options on different setups. Will bolt on fcr's with std 150 mains and std airbox and headers to start on first day..
have dyno results (77/78 hp at rear wheel)from previous std carbs/staintunes.
When exhaust arrives would be interested in aranging another day and noting h/power increase with just carb's fitted on dyno and next stage when big bore exhaust and airpods fitted later that day.

Sounds like you're getting it all sorted. Which Dyno do you think you'll be going to ? I've used Springwood Suzuki's a couple of times and found them very good. First run was no mods other than K&N in the airbox and full Over system and it made 82hp. 2nd run was with FCR's with pods and full Akra system + Over cdi. It made 87hp. Since changed the jetting from 158's to 160 and it feels just right. Yet to do another run.

Wow this is a fantastic opportunity. I live on the Goldy I would love to know how you're going with it. I know you posted this last month but it sounds nearrly exactly what I would like to do. I already have a set of Staintune's and the carbies might be a tad expensive (what would they set me back approx?) but I would love to do a pod filter and re-jet. Is it possible to use the set-up that someone else uses when doing the same job? or is it tempermental between bikes? I have asked around about this and told that if water gets in then you're screwed? Is this true, or how you do you get around this (ie fitting watersport, jetski, pod filters)?

Any more info on this would be fantastic.

payed $1350 AUST. for 41mm fcr flatside carb kit complete with throttle cable and manifold attatchments/velocity stacks. :) Arrived 3 weeks ago but purchased when aussie dollar was worth 90 US cents not just under 70 cents like now. Have heard also they dont manufacture them any more(not sure tho)
Have ran airpod or K&N filters for 14years on a 79 bonniville and Z750 kwaka set up with smootbores (2yrs)and never had any dramas even with QLD's wet weather. Was advised not to fit airpods to vaccum carbs and opted for K&N filter for std airbox and just keep that clean every 1500km.
Be aware staintunes are designed to run std mainjets(common fault to fit larger jets as I found )) and after dyno runs and std jets placed back in lifted hp from just over70hp to almost 78hp with 90,000k's up on the clock, thats doin ok.. Wouldnt be suprised if new camchain and sprockets/reshim and new rear chain gets me close to 80hp at rear wheel.

Brian , where did you get them from? Was it motorcyclecarbs.com in the States, or Show and Go here in Aust? I'll be ringing around to see if they were still available before parting with my cash  Could've bought a set back at Christmas time but the wife decided to spend the money instead

Show and go here in good old Aust.
mmm just lost my licience for 2yrs by the looks so dont know what to do at present..dam.. shit happens hey...
May just have to turn it into a full track bike or do a rebuild. Wiser to do the second tho. Be nice to keep it stock and prob cheaper to buy a track bike for the purpose i feel. So will sleep on it for a while as carbs are still in the box and was just looking at options of a big bore exhaust to balance the extra intake.. So no rush now...damm Never know whats around the next corner do you but thats a part of the chance we take But damm the adrenilin rush is good

"Have heard also they dont manufacture them any more(not sure tho)"

Rang Brenton at Show and Go today, and he said yes they are still available for the TRX.
Around $1500 with the current exchange rates. Special order with 2 - 4 week wait.

Saving up (nearly 1/2 way there) =D> [-o<

Well as for the two yrs loss of licience... In a car accident and knocked myself out so ambulance was called and while at hospital getting checked out the dr"s noticed I suffered epilepsy and contacted the transport dept so licience was cancelled.
Local GP reaconed 5yrs till I can prove that it's under control, i was told 2yrs by another, but neuroligist reacons 12mths if on medication. Even tho my seizures(2 or 3 a year) manifest through my sleep in the form of sleepwalking.
yes and sleep apnia(quite common) is a form of epilepsy too ,1 of dozens of formatts .. Wonder how many coppers out there suffer that and still have liciences...
The brain is a complex mass of meat and we only use 10% of its capacity and epilepsy is a problem Doctors to this day still know very little about.
Learnt my own way to deal with the problem without medication but thats another story.
