R6 seat unit

Post by AHTHUD » Wed Aug 26, 2009 9:00 pm

I've been looking at the different seat units fitted to some of the bikes on here and think the 03-05 R6 ones fitted to the like of honkdawilly's bike looks the nuts =D> Could anyone who's used one of these give me some idea of the level of frame mods needed to fit one? Are we talking major surgery? and do you use the R6 seat pad?

you need to chop off the entire rear subframe behind (from about rear pillion pegs) and fabricate a new one for the r6 seat unit

and yes, you can use the R6 seat

Nothing major then   I've got a spare frame so I might have a play with it over the winter.

lazy? :^o :^o If your lazy i'm fricking comatose. God I wish I could weld ally like that. I was hoping to get some specific info on fitting the 04 R6 seat unit.

By the way the R1 fairing looks good to me so sod the critics.

1: strip the whole back end of the TRX
2: figure out mounting points of the new seat, tail, pillion cover
3: figure out which tail lights you are going to run with, and get appropriate fittings / etc..
4: make up a "dummy" tail end if you can, so the new fairing and seat bolt to it properly.
5: mount that at the desired angle / height to your TRX frame, once you cut away the parts you need.

measure as MUCH as you can.. walk away for 5 mins, remeasure EVERYTHING, compare the notes, they should be identical, when that happens, you can proceed to cut away to your hearts content.
