Valve clearances are done, & Dyno chart inside!

Post by M.V. » Thu Jul 01, 2010 2:31 am

5 bloody days my bike was in pieces, eleventy billion phone calls chasing shims & three visits to three different shop, but I got there!

All my gaps were really tight, one was 0  Not coincidentally, the only one I changed when I put the engine in... Oh well. There was some cam journal wear, but I cleaned everything up with some 1200 wet & dry, then measured the clearances with some plastigauge, still within spec.

Anyway, I'm a happy boy again, I'll take her for a spin tonight to make sure everything's a ok, then we're off to a dyno day on sat, that should be fun!

Where did you get your valves from and how much each were they?

Sorry, that's slightly misleading isn't it. Valve clearances are done, not valve replacement.

Here it is: I'm about 10 HP down, & running really rich after idle!

Any general advice for some tuning? I have a factory pro jet kit, so I guess one or two jet sizes down & drop the needle one one two positions down & see how I go... I'll have to do seat of the pants tuning for now, at least until there's another $20 Dyno day!

I'd maybe start by dropping the needle one clip and trying that, it's surprising how much difference just doing that can make, then maybe down one size on the main jet if it still feels rich at the top. One change at a time though ;) And keep notes... Good luck! :D
