replacing my stolen TRX

so a week and a half ago, my beautiful TRX was taken from my garage (forced entry, house was also burgled for the bike keys).

as the bike was my only method of trasnsport, i'm now in the position where i need to find a new bike.

the question is - do i get another TRX? mine was my baby. would getting another feel weird? would i forever compare it to "the one that got away" so to speak?


i'm considering stepping over to a triumph daytona 955i. they are around the same price as TRXs and have similar credentials (fairly powerful, yet smooth for road use, plenty of torque, easy to live with and they have a certain classic status).

but i've also been looking around for other TRXs all the same, just to see what's out there.

does this look familiar? i've seen pictures of this bike floating around the forum before.... who's selling up their beautiful TRX?

(also, on the subject, has anyone owned/ridden the daytona 955i and give a rough idea of the feel of the bike)

Ive ridden a mates 955 and found the riding position quite extreme and uncomfortable for me at 6ft+ so ride one first.

Nice trx but a bit on the pricey side me thinks. Mate has a Daytona 955i ok bike but the gear box came out of a tractor

Don't recognise it ... wonder whose the red TRX in the background is? That bike shop's not a million miles from me - didn't know there were other TRXs in Somerset any more!!

I have a T509 Speed Triple (the 885cc engine, not the 955cc engine from the T595). They didn't put the 955cc engine in the Speed Triple til mid '99.

This is my second Hinkley Trumpet, and IMO, they're fantastic bikes. The 955cc has a lot more grunt to it than the 885cc version (used in the MkII Tiger and the MkII Speed Triple from '97 to late '98/early '99). My first was a first generation 900 Daytona, the engine's were awesome, the handling less so. You can get T3 bikes ('91 through to '97) for a decent enough price just now, the 885cc triples are the ones to go for (Trident/Daytona/Sprint/Speed Triple/etc). I find them to be sweet as a nut, and the gearboxes are great.

I've not had my TRX for long enough or ridden it enough to give a good comparison of the 2 bikes, but I have had the Speed Triple for 2 years, and love it. OK, it's not the most powerful of bikes out there (likewise the TRX), but it's flickable, has plenty of grunt, and has enough power to put a grin on your face in real road situations.

Another Triumph worth looking out for would be the 955cc Sprint RS (bikini faired sports tourer type thing), they do seem to go for decent/affordable money, have plenty of oomph, and real world, ride all day comfort.

Have to say, I do love the Hinkley triples, ideal bikes for UK roads, and characterful enough to be good fun to ride.

i dont think a trxx could be replaced, they are such an individual bike.... i have had mine now approx 12 years and can't see me getting rid of it. i love it so much.... roll on next year i can put another 800 odd miles on it then....
