Swapping the wiring loom

Post by phuk72 » Fri Jan 05, 2007 5:12 pm

Bike number 2 has a £300 alarm on it which I want to swap onto my bike. Normally I avoid alarms and never fit them but this is supposed to be on of the best and most reliable on the market.

No alarm fitter will come and do it for me as they didn't fit it in the first place and so cannot guarantee the work etc etc so I thought I'd give it a go.

Only problem is that I am shite with a soldering iron so ....

I thought I'd just swap the complete wiring loom with the alarm onto my bike. A couple of questions:

1) This will be fine and work OK won't it? (More of a statement that a question tbh)

2) How long is this likley to take me? Have never had the wiring loom completely of the bike and don't expect it to take me more than a couple of hours for a straight swap but just wondered if there is anything I need to know and / or look out for?

It shouldn't be too hard or take too long... You only have to un-plug the main loom and remove it afterall (all the smaller ones can stay; headlight etc) Only problem I can see is mixing import with UK spec if that's what you're doing.......

Both UK bikes.

Had a quick look and there are 21 wires soldered to the loom :!: Bu apart from indicators, as you say the are pretty much all on the main loom
